I seen a pile of old pipes while out walking locally one day and took a snap with my phone as they reminded me of shedded snake skin. I ended up coming back later that day with the Canon SLR to get some proper photos with the intention of placing a snake or two in the scene.
I took some hi-res photos of the pipes from various different angles and heights then returned to the office to view them in Adobe Bridge and pick the best one for the composition. I sourced a suitable image of a snake online and composited it into one of the pipes. I used the Puppet Warp tool in Photoshop to bend his body upwards a little and make him fit the natural shape of the pipe then recoloured the snake to match the pipes. I added shadows underneath as well as some burning and dodging to match existing shadows and highlights in the background. I put some adjustment layers over the top to sort levels, lighting and colours and to unify the composition.
